Cabbage - Bavarian Style
We used this recipe for Oktoberfest at church.
Yield: 6-8 servings
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 lb. head red or green cabbage
- 3 TBSP bacon grease
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 3/4 cup water
- 2 tsp salt
- Pepper
- 1 onion, studded with a few cloves
- 1 heaping TBSP flour
- 1 apple, slightly sour, cut in small cubes
Directions:
- Shred cabbage.
- Saute cabbage in grease.
- Add water, vinegar, salt, pepper, onion and apple.
- Cover and cook over low heat for 30 minutes.
- Sprinkle with flour to thicken.
