Cabbage - Bavarian Style

We used this recipe for Oktoberfest at church.

Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 lb. head red or green cabbage
  • 3 TBSP bacon grease
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 tsp salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 onion, studded with a few cloves
  • 1 heaping TBSP flour
  • 1 apple, slightly sour, cut in small cubes

Directions:

  1. Shred cabbage.
  2. Saute cabbage in grease.
  3. Add water, vinegar, salt, pepper, onion and apple.
  4. Cover and cook over low heat for 30 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle with flour to thicken.
